Position Overview
Lead our skilled construction teams as a foreman and play a critical role in delivering the exceptional quality RJR Building is known for throughout Central Maine. This leadership position combines your technical construction expertise with people management skills to ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, and to our exacting standards.
As a foreman, you'll be the bridge between the office and the field, supervising 3-8 person crews on residential and commercial construction and remodeling projects. You'll have the authority to make field decisions, solve problems as they arise, and ensure your crew has everything they need to do exceptional work. This role requires someone who can read plans, manage people, and maintain the high-quality standards that define RJR Building.
We're looking for an experienced construction professional who leads by example, communicates clearly, and takes pride in developing team members. You'll work closely with our project managers while having significant autonomy in managing daily jobsite operations. Minimum Required Qualifications
• Minimum 7 years of residential or commercial construction experience
• At least 2 years in a supervisory, lead carpenter, or foreman role
• Demonstrated strong leadership and crew management abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Thorough knowledge of Maine building codes and construction methods
• Ability to read and interpret construction documents, blueprints, and specifications
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• OSHA 30 certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire)
• Proven track record of completing projects on time and within budget
• Problem-solving skills and ability to make sound decisions under pressure
Preferred Qualifications
• 10+ years in residential or commercial construction industry
• Experience with project management or scheduling software
• First Aid and CPR certification
• Custom home building or high-end remodeling experience
• Experience managing larger crews (8+ people)
Key Responsibilities
• Supervise and coordinate daily activities of 3-8 person construction crews
• Read and interpret blueprints, plans, specifications, and construction documents
• Ensure all work meets RJR Building quality standards and Maine building code requirements
• Manage material ordering, delivery scheduling, and jobsite logistics
• Conduct daily safety meetings and strictly enforce all safety protocols
• Communicate project progress, challenges, and needs to project managers
• Train, mentor, and develop carpenters and laborers
• Resolve on-site issues quickly and make sound field decisions
• Coordinate schedules with subcontractors and inspectors
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe jobsites at all times
• Track labor hours and material usage
• Perform quality control inspections throughout construction phases
