Position Overview


Start your construction career with RJR Building as a laborer and learn from some of Central Maine's most skilled carpenters and builders. This entry-level position is perfect for motivated individuals who want to break into the construction industry and develop valuable trade skills.

As a laborer, you'll be an essential part of our construction teams, supporting carpenters and tradespeople while learning the fundamentals of residential and commercial construction. You'll gain hands-on experience with tools, materials, and building techniques while working on real projects throughout Central Maine. Many of our current carpenters and foremen started in this exact position.

Minimum Required Qualifications


• Strong work ethic and genuine willingness to learn
• Ability to follow directions and work effectively as part of a team
• Reliable and punctual attendance—we count on you to show up
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation to jobsites
• Physical ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly throughout the day
• Ability to work in various weather conditions
• Basic understanding of construction safety or willingness to learn
• Positive attitude and professional demeanor


Preferred Qualifications


• Previous construction, landscaping, or manual labor experience
• Familiarity with basic construction tools and terminology
• OSHA 10 certification
• CDL license (helpful for material pickup and equipment transport)
• Mechanical aptitude or hands-on hobby experience


Key Responsibilities


• Assist carpenters and tradespeople with daily tasks on jobsites
• Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment safely
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas throughout the day
• Perform demolition work and site preparation as needed
• Operate basic hand and power tools under the supervision of experienced carpenters
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures without exception
• Complete basic site preparation tasks including layout and material staging
• Learn construction terminology, techniques, and best practices
